Augusten, Hank and Toby's Times

Future
A couple of months ago I was checking out something on imdb when I came across great news, a book I read a few years ago and loved was gonna be made into a movie: How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. The only bad thing is that it won't come out until 2008. At least in the meantime The Sound of No Hands Clapping, also by the super enjoyable Toby Young, is making me happy.

Past
Still I have to wait more than a year to see How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, and I didn't get a chance to see Factotum (based on the book that made me fall in love with Charles Bukowski and after which it became imperative for me to devour all of his books until there was nothing left from him, just about him). :( Hank, I miss you!

Present
Luckily, not all is lost or in the far-off future, today I watched Running With Scissors by my beloved Augusten Burroughs, and I loved it! It opened today and already I can't wait to own the DVD (see? more waiting!)

I loved to see stuff on the screen that I had already pictured in my head. Obviously not everything in the book can be in the movie, so there were many great parts left out, but the cast was so awesome that I couldn't help wishing that since they were at it they would have made a scene out of every paragraph in the book.

And back to the Future
To my delight I learned that Augusten's funny novel Sellevision is also going to be made into a movie. I think that's the most adaptable of his books. And the least adaptable, my favorite book by him: Dry. I love that book so much, it's so intimate and I identify with it to the point that if it ever became a movie, I'd feel a little like my privacy was being invaded. Strange, isn't it? Hey, but if it ever gets made into a film I hope Gale Harold plays Augusten. I guess we'll have to wait, like I said, just wait....
